Applied Geoinformatics - academic mobility network for Central and Eastern Europe

In 2005 the Centre for the Geoinformatics established a network of academic institutions under the “Applied Geoinformatics” (CEE -GIS) label within the Central European Exchange Programme for University Studies (CEE PUS). Today this network brings together 11 institutions from Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, and Austria with a common interest in graduate level Applied Geoinformatics study programmes. Together with the Institute for GIScience at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Z_GIS has been working on expanding networking in the regional CEE scientific community. The main network activities include:

  • Up to full semester undergraduate and graduate mobilities focusing on methodologies in geoinformatics, hosting students across multiple disciplines;
  • International Summer Schools and research visits for students working on their theses;
  • Teaching visits by international faculty which double as transnational networking and connectivity opportunities;
  • Developing eLearning or blended learning strategies for international students;
  • Exploring possibilities for and implementation of common educational and research projects
